Jürgen Mayer H. heads the cross disciplinary studio J. MAYER H. und Partner, Architekten in Berlin founded in 1996. The studio focuses on works at the intersections of architectural communication and new technologies, including the new media. Mayer H. studied at Stuttgart University, The Cooper Union and Princeton University. His work is published and exhibited worldwide and he has won major international awards. He has taught at Princeton, Harvard and Columbia University, the University of Toronto and the Kunsthochschule in Berlin. The early work of Jürgen Mayer H. shows many different explorations of form, composition and materialization. More recently the same exploratory qualities seem to re-emerge in built works. The Mikmak Foundation is especially interested in how an architectural practice conceives of this relation between research and practice. Is this combination of research and practice considered as central for the mode of working of the office? Is research under pressure within the contemporary conditions of production? And what might be the (near) future field of investigation and exploration for a contemporary architectural practice?
